EcoMOBILE Project

Manager:
Dr. Chris Dede
Elements:
Mobile, augmented reality, place-based learning
Goals:
Explore how augmented reaklity can provide “students a window into the unseen parts of the environment” to deepen their scientific understanding
Description:
Context:
Harvard University.

Program:
Students are challenged with solving an environmental mystery and capitalize on augmented reality fetures to reveal information about the natural environment. Students capture photos, video, voice recordings as evidence and use environmental probes to collect real-time data in a virtual representation of a pond ecosystem (EdoMUVE) and in the natural environment. This experience allows for connection between real world, virtual world and mobile learning environments for students.
Results:
The technology drives the students deeper into authentic observation and interation with the environment and with each other.
Future:
Modeling use and research efforts related to rich contexts for mobile learning in an authentic manner in Spain.
